Coaching
What is coaching?
Basically it is one person helping another person improve.
It’s more than sports.
Businesses do it. There are life coaches. There are voice coaches. Even coaches have coaches.
PastorServe offers coaching for greater ministry effectiveness
The ultimate goal of coaching is to help others reach new levels of personal commitment and performance. The underlying assumption is that we can all help one another.
He who dares to teach must never cease to learn. – Anonymous
If you are seeking to help others follow and serve Jesus, you must never cease to learn. A coach can help you learn more effectively than you can on your own. Everybody needs a coach.
The PastorServe coaching model utilizes the 24 core ministry competencies covered in the Ministry Training Institute.
The PastorServe coaching model builds on the six different kinds of people every pastor or ministry leader needs.
- Trainer—focuses on the process of acquiring specific ministry skills. Often short term, could be a seminar leader at a conference.
- Coach—focuses on incorporating multiple competencies to the ministry task at hand for improved performance. A coach is change oriented.
- Supervisor—provides structure and accountability. It is very difficult to perform any of the other roles at the same time as being a supervisor.
- Mentor—focuses on life skills, navigating the labyrinth of life. Can be life-long, often outside the normal authority structures (such as a denomination).
- Counselor—focuses on self-perception. Helps a person to look back and provides help with personal and interpersonal relationships.
- Encourager (of friend)—someone outside the church or ministry loop who will provided encouragement through regular conversation, prayer and unconditional support.
One person can function in multiple roles but some roles exclude others, particularly the supervisor won’t be able to function in the other areas and an encourager/friend’s purpose runs counter to a systemized approach to pastoral evaluation.
