Learning takes place in community

All learning takes place in community.

Others give us the information we need and share the experiences to interpret that information.  Each person has a part to play.  No one has it all together by himself or herself.  Even the most gifted and competent benefit from community.

Johari’s window reminds us that there are things we know about ourselves and things we don’t know about ourselves, and there are things others know about us and things others don’t know about us.  Growth takes place as we share with others what we know and they share with us what they know.

Collaboration in the Institute will take place in two primary ways.

  1. The virtual world of discussion forums.  Ideas, best practices, mistakes to avoid, all will be discussed through the Institute Forums.  This is one of the most current ways to expand your learning community.  Check out the Forums here.
  2. You will also be encouraged to form a small group that can have some kind of face-to-face presence.  This could be a group of other pastors or ministry leaders.  It could also be a group of people from within your church or ministry.  For this one, the ball is in your own court.  We will remind you of its importance from time to time, but you have to pull this one off on your own.  Get to it!

PastorServe also holds conferences, seminars and live forums that address the different competencies.  You will learn about these in the News and Events section of the website.
